FAQ
Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows or Android?
HEIC is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It compresses better than JPG but many apps, websites and older versions of Windows do not decode it. Converting to JPG makes the photo work everywhere.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion is done by JavaScript running inside your browser. The only network request is for the small decoder script; your image data stays on your device.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so there is a small loss on every re-encode. At quality 0.9 or above it is not visible in normal use. If you need an exact copy, choose PNG.
Is EXIF data (location, date) kept?
No. The converter re-encodes the pixels, so camera metadata and GPS location are not carried into the output. That is usually what you want when sharing photos.
